Developing science talk in the classroom

This task should be carried out at some point as you plan and teach science in Phase 2.

Read the following articles, available on the School Experience site:

  • Moore, J. (2020) ‘Developing Talk in the Primary Classroom’, Primary Science, 1590, pp.12-16.
  • Mercer, N., Dawes L. and Kleine Staarmanc, J. (2009) ‘Dialogic teaching in the primary science classroom’, Language and Education, 23 (4), pp.353-369.

Plan to employ at least one of the strategies described by Moore (2020). Record this carefully on your lesson plan and then make specific evaluative notes after teaching the lesson, reflecting on what you learnt and how the activity supported the children’s learning.
