The Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework

The Initial Teacher Training and Early Career Framework (ITTECCF) sets out the entitlement of every trainee and early career teacher (ECT) to the core body of knowledge, skills and behaviours that define great teaching, and to the mentoring and support from expert colleagues they should receive throughout the three or more years at the start of their career. It outlines the minimum requirement for the ITT curriculum provided by the University including the partnership with schools. The Core Content Framework (CCF) document was originally published by the DfE in November 2019 but now has been updated and combined with the Early Career Framework in the form of the ITTECF. It can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/initial-teacher-training-and-early-career-framework. It is important that all members of the Primary PGCE partnership are aware of this document and how this informs the support for students. Key elements of the ITTECF will be included in the relevant mentor training for teacher mentors.

The structure of the ITTECF aligns with the Teachers’ Standards, and includes ‘Learn that’ statements and ‘Learn how to’ statements. During ITT and ECT training, trainees and ECTs should revisit ‘Learn that…’ and ‘Learn how to…’ statements across the framework in order to deepen their understanding of the evidence base and make links between theory and practice.
