This task will help you to understand how to assess children’s learning in a chosen foundation subject.
Pick a subject different from the subject chosen for the pupil progress task in Phase 2. This needs to be a subject that you will see a sequence of lessons in across the first weeks of your placement. It will also be useful to make sure that you are teaching some of these lessons too.
Spend time observing your focus pupils in this subject and perhaps talk to them about their learning. It is interesting to find out what the children now know and what they can remember. Use the success criteria and the planned outcomes of the lessons to assess if the children are able to apply the new knowledge they have been taught and if they are able to retain this knowledge between lessons.
Record this on the slides drawing out examples of what you have observed.
When setting targets for your focus children, think about what targets you may set the children to help them be able to remember more (i.e. can remember 3 pieces of knowledge from the previous lesson). It is also useful to revisit the EEF report around metacognition as this will help you to think about targets that will help the children to be more independent in their learning.

The information below is what you used to support with your pupil progress task in Phase 2. This is still relevant and you can watch this to recap how you might go about this task.
