Trainee teachers are expected to attend each day and for the agreed times. A record of attendance must be maintained on each Weekly Review Form which is to be signed by the Teacher Mentor.
If a trainee is unable to attend school owing to sickness, they must:
1) Follow the school policy for reporting an absence
2) Inform the Personal Tutor or Visiting Tutor, if appropriate.
3) Email pripgce@le.ac.uk
4) Fill in the CSSAH Notification of Absence form: CSSAH Notification of Absence (office.com)
If your sickness absence persists for longer 7 consecutive days, you must submit a doctor’s fit note to the school.
For other absences, a trainee must email the Head of Course and Primary PGCE office a request for a leave of absence and their placement school’s headteacher.
The following requests will be considered:
- Medical appointments which cannot be arrange outside of the hours of the course with appropriate documentation provided to the PGCE office.
- Compassionate leave or significant life events (such as an immediate family wedding or your own graduation)
- Religious festivals.
Trainees are advised routine dentist check-ups, eye tests etc. should, where possible, be booked during their free time e.g. at the end of a day, weekends, holidays.
The university requires us to monitor attendance when trainees are on attachment/placement and has set procedures that must be followed in this respect. For convenience, we are now asking trainees to report their attendance on Blackboard, when they submit their ‘Weekly Review Meeting Record’.
It is the expectation that you register your attendance on a Friday through the “Primary PGCE Phase 2” page of Blackboard. Your attendance is monitored by both your personal tutor and the head of course.
