Bringing UK Parliament into the classroom

UK Parliament is passionate about showing young people how they can get their voices heard. In Phase 3, plan to help the children in your classes to learn more about the important role of democracy, active citizenship and engaging with the UK Parliament.

You will need to discuss possible approaches with you mentor and build on the work you have already completed around pupil voice and school councils. There are a range of resources and weblinks to materials on Blackboard.  Embedding learning around the work of Parliament in various curriculum subjects is possible but whatever you select to do, it must be purposeful and provide opportunities for learning.

For this task you need to:

  • Select a resource from the UK Parliament book you already have or select an online resource suitable for your year group
  • Consider purposeful and relevant links to curriculum subjects
  • Plan and teach one or two lessons which enable children to learn about Parliament. You could also draw on the Ideas for short activities document to deepen or consolidate leaning.
  • Upload your lesson plan and detailed evaluation to your P3 OneDrive folder.
