Data Transfer and Security

Both the University and placement providers will ensure that all personal data shared under this agreement will be kept secure and protected against unauthorised access, use or disclosure.  If a placement provider becomes aware of any potential data breach of security which involves data supplied by the University, it must be raised with the University immediately.

Restrictions on the use of Information

The trainee personal data provided by the University to placement providers shall only be used for the purposes set out in the Partnership agreement.  Trainee personal data shall not be passed to any third party by the provider or placement provider unless permitted by Data Protection legislation. In order to match students carefully with Teacher Mentors and schools, placement data is kept for 6 years. In some instances placement trainees will collect data about their pupils for teaching learning and assessment purposes and the processing of this data will be according to data protection legislation. Trainees will also act in accordance with each individual school’s privacy policy. The placement provider will ensure trainee’s personal data is destroyed securely after the placement ends. Both parties are responsible for complying with Data Protection legislation when processing personal data of students and teachers, including ensuring that all staff who have access to student personal data are fully trained and aware of the Data Protection and information security.

Confidentiality

If trainees are to work effectively as part of a professional team, they need access, where the school considers it appropriate, to confidential information about their pupils. Trainees, likewise, are bound by, and must adhere to, the same code of professional conduct as teachers. If Teacher Mentors are in any doubt as to whether it is appropriate to share information, please consult with your Headteacher and the University Visiting/Quality Assurance Tutor.
