Throughout the year, the trainees have been introduced to the work of Teresa Cremin and the Open University Reading for Pleasure project (https://ourfp.org/ see the poster included below for more information) and have learnt about the importance of reading for pleasure and building reading communities in the classroom.
As a way of introducing themselves to their new classes for Phase 3, they have each created a 10-minute PPT presentation, which shares 5 age-appropriate books that are meaningful or special to them. They have been asked to share this with the children during the preliminary days.
This task has been devised to support the trainees in:
- Developing their own knowledge of children’s literature and reading material
- Positioning themselves as ‘teacher as reader’ in the classroom and as a reading for pleasure role model for children
- Developing their relationship with the class by sharing reading choices and something about themselves
- Nurturing children’s engagement with reading, through demonstrating their own interest and commitment
The trainees will be contributing any thoughts about the outcomes and impact of this task, via a Padlet. Therefore, there is no expectation of any formal written documentation being produced and added to their files.
