Right to Work

As our trainees are not working but studying, we are not required to undertake the same right to work checks as we do with new employees. However, a trainee’s nationality does determine their tuition fee and eligibility to study/reside in the UK, so we do routinely consider this as part of the admissions process.

Where a PGCE applicant is from the EU or is international, their right to remain in the UK to study is checked upon registration. Most trainees will be studying on the student visa or via the EU settlement scheme. For more information on student visa’s please refer to the Government website.

As the sponsor of their visa, the University remains responsible for the trainee throughout their placement, which includes ensuring they meet minimum attendance/engagement requirements. As part of this, we can issue a letter confirming the requirements of the placement to schools hosting trainees, in partnership with School Direct lead schools, where appropriate.
