Tutor Roles and Responsibilities

Visiting tutors for University-led trainees will:

  • Build mutually respectful relationships with the trainee, teacher mentor and other key school staff;
  • Keep in contact with the trainee and teacher mentor throughout the placement and provide support and guidance;
  • Ensure the trainee is keeping the e-portfolio up-to-date
  • Make two face-to-face visits during phases 1, 2 and Phase 3. On each occasion, these will include joint formative observations with the teacher mentor and a Talk-through.

University-based Quality Assurance Tutors for Lead Partners will:

  • Keep in contact with the trainee, teacher mentor and Initial Teacher Education Coordinator throughout the placement and provide support and guidance when required;
  • Ensure the trainee is keeping the e-portfolio up-to-date
  • Make one visit to school on each placement which will include a joint formative observations with the teacher mentor and a Talk-through 

Initial Teacher Education Coordinators for Lead Partners will:

  • Keep in contact with the trainee, teacher mentor and University-based quality assurance tutor throughout the placement and provide support and guidance when required;
  • Make one visit to school during each placement which will include a joint formative observation with the teacher mentor, scrutiny of any folders (including weekly reviews) and joint feedback and discussion with the teacher mentor.

Course Quality Assurance will:

  • Monitor the consistency of mentoring of the teacher mentors, visiting and quality assurance tutors.
