The aim of this Directed Task is to develop your understanding of your focus children working at age-related expectations and your focus child with SEND as writers, so that this knowledge informs your focus children’s progress meetings (week 7) and begins to inform your planning for those individuals, groups or the whole class for the final weeks of your placement. You will deepen your understanding of the importance of assessment for learning in writing and how expert colleagues carry this out and respond to children’s writing, setting next steps to ensure they make good progress. You will also find out how the school tracks each child’s progress in writing and how summative assessments are conducted and how the outcomes are used
The document below provides guidance for you to follow. You will need to arrange time to speak to your mentor about how writing is assessed and to ensure that you carry out observations of how writing is taught and how your focus children respond in these lessons. You should also aim to observe another teacher, teaching writing. If possible, this should be the English lead teacher.
