Observing Expert Colleagues

Observations of Subject Leaders/Specialists

Conduct a formal observation of the English, Mathematics and science coordinators/subject leaders/teachers with subject specific expertise and follow up with a discussion about how the lesson was planned, how it will be assessed and evaluated and how pupil progress was implemented for different learners. Observing the Phonics specialist will give you the opportunity to revise your learning from the Phonics and Early Reading ITP, if you are currently based in KS2 and therefore not seeing phonics lessons on a regular basis. If you are based in EYFS/KS1 observing phonics will be an integral part of your placement. However, you should still try to observe the phonics lead or specialist in the school.

Please use the expert colleagues observation forms for these tasks and store these in your Planning and Assessment folder, if handwritten, or in you OneDrive e-portfolio.

You may want to invite them to come and formatively observe some of your teaching to develop your subject knowledge.
