The format of any lesson/activity plan will often vary in response to the structure, content and nature of the lesson. Trainees will need to learn how to structure both their teaching and assessment for learning practice for maximum effectiveness. For this reason, all lesson plans must be written on the individual lesson/ activity plan.
Throughout the whole placement, the trainee may use the Lesson Sequence plan for guided reading or phonics sessions without the requirement to complete an individual lesson plan.
At the mid-phase review the visiting tutor and mentor will discuss and agree whether the trainee is ready to move to using the lesson sequence plans for sequences of lessons. We are not expecting that trainees do this prior to half-term.
This is a process which enables the trainee to reflect upon and set out:
- Personal organisation of resources, class organisation and layout
- Teaching learning, language content, key words, steps in explanations and timings
- Draft dialogue; questions to focus attention; how to follow up; perhaps responsive teaching techniques and groupings
- The evidence of learning to be looked for – both retainable and un-retainable.
For all formative lesson observations (by mentors or tutors), a full, individual lesson plan must be completed.
