2024-25 Co-Tutors Training
Phase A
With the new ITT criteria and requirements around mentor training it is important for you to attend the mentor development meeting. We have made the decision for it to be in person rather than online. We appreciate that at this short notice some of you will be unable to make it we would encourage you to attend as it will also be a valuable opportunity to speak with other mentors in other schools to build up your professional network.
Contents of the development meeting
The following is what will be covered in the development meeting:
Part one
* Outline of the mentor development programme
* Changes to course administration and eportfolios
* Weekly focus and Focused Observation
* Professional Noticing and ITP 2
There will be records available for all of the above
Part two
* Beginning Teacher Identities and the role of the co-tutor/mentor
Key points for those unable to attend on Thursday
- One of the main things that will be covered is the Intensive Training Practice (ITP) day that will happen on the 8th October. This is the second day that they will be in school next week. I have attached a guide for the ITP but the main things as ITT coordinator/Co-tutor are that you will need to ensure at some point on those two days that the PGCE student does the following:
- Observe students coming into school by joining a member of staff at the start of the day.
- Join a member of staff during break/lunch time on duty.
- Arrange for them to observe a lesson (this does not have to be within their subject specialism).
- Give them time to explore the school and complete the scavenger hunt.
Teaching Hours
In phase A the PGCE students should be working up to teaching 10 hours. This may be slightly above or below depending on the school timetable and the length of lessons in your school. They should be aiming to teach all of these hours by the 4th or 5th week of the placement.
ITT Coordinators may have been invited to this training session as we have not received all contact details for co-tutors for Phase A placements, I will reach out to obtain these details, in the meantime please forward these details to co-tutors that may require it.
