Reporting to Parents

Phase 3 Directed Task

Select three of your Phase 3 children (1 below age related expectation, 1 at age related expectations and 1 above age related expectations) and write a report for each of them using the template above.

Please use pseudonyms for each of the children when you write the report and also ensure you do not include any information which could reveal their identify and/or their school.

Once you have written your reports, please share this with your mentor for feedback.

Reporting to Parents

Became a legal requirement in 1990 with the advent of the first National Curriculum

Headteachers at maintained schools, including maintained special schools, must prepare annual reports for every pupil’s parents. Headteachers must make arrangements for parents to discuss the report with their child’s teacher, if the parents request it.

Reports must cover:

EYFS

  • A written summary of the childs’ attainment against the ELG in all areas of learning
  • Must state whether Emerging, Expected or Exceeding in are areas of learning
  • Comments on general progress including the characteristics of effective learning
  • Be specific to the child
  • Be concise and informative
  • Help to identify appropriate next steps

KS1 and KS2

  • The child’s achievements
  • General Progress
  • Attendance Record
  • The result of any statutory assessment test completed (Phonics Screening, SATs
